Year-end mass events: what changes at thousands of people
Christmas fairs, concerts, festivals and New Year celebrations share one problem: flow. From about 500 attendees, toilets stop being a detail and become logistics. The starting rule is 1 toilet per 50–75 people over 4 hours (1 per 35–50 with alcohol), and the count grows with duration.
How many toilets for 500, 1,000 and more
| Attendees | 4 hours | 6 hours | 8+ hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 | 4-5 | 5-7 | 7-10 |
| 500 | 8-10 | 12-15 | 15-20 |
| 1,000+ | 15-20 | 20-30 | 30+ |
For multi-day events calculate on total duration, not a single day. Full detail in the guide on how many toilets you need.
How to spread them out
- Zones: at least 2–3, near stages, food and gates, not all in one corner.
- Accessibility: one accessible unit per zone.
- Scheduled servicing: a long event needs service during the day.
- Truck access: keep a lane free for delivery, servicing and pickup.
- Permits: for public streets or parks, confirm with the city 4–6 weeks ahead.
Which lines to use
For volume, basic toilets and portable restroom trailers: the Prestige trailer has up to 10 stalls in one unit, which keeps queues moving at peak times. For VIP areas, sponsors or artists, VIP restrooms or presidential restrooms. All options are on portable toilets for events.
